Kindergartners-to-be are getting a "head start" in preparing for school.
Monday was the first class for the West Ohio CAP's Head Start program. Organizers say around 150 students are enrolled in the program and is held in several different locations throughout the city. The kids attend the program for six hours a day, as they learn some of the things they will need to know, so they're ready to head to school for the first time.
"We're working on these pre-Kindergarten skills - socializing with their friends, coloring, eating lunch, naptime - anything that gets them ready to move on to the public schools," said Phyllis Montrose, who is the Director of Child Development Services for West Ohio CAP.
Another session of head start classes begins on Monday, September 9th. Anyone who may be interested in signing their child up can pick up an enrollment packet at West Ohio CAP's central office at 540 South Central Avenue in Lima, or they can be enrolled online at www.wocap.org.
If you have questions about the program, you can call (419) 227-2586.
