“We had a fantastic group this year. All the kids were really wonderful. Our leaders were great this year. So overall, I think it was a very productive and amazing year for everybody,” Washington-Allen said.
The Lima Parks Playground Program took a field trip to Edgewood Skate Arena for an afternoon full of fun.
“This is an opportunity at these different ages to get them interested in science and hopefully keep that,” said Mark Kleffner, associate dean at OSU Lima and professor of earth sciences. “They’ll see it’s fun, and that’s one of the things I really enjoy so much as a teacher—turning students on to a subject that many people think is not a fun subject when it actually is.”
Registration for the annual program begins Tuesday, May 20, with extended office hours at the Lima Parks Department. Parents can sign their children up at the department’s office in the City Garage on Collett Street from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 20 and 21.
The YMCA will host its annual Mother and Son Superhero Party on Saturday, May 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature dancing, games, and activities designed for dynamic duos looking to make lasting memories.
The Lima Family YMCA hosted its final no-school day of the year for area students, giving them a chance to enjoy a fun day off from school.
The annual cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, ahead of the festival on April 12. Volunteers will spend the morning raking, weeding, and picking up trash to prepare the park for the celebration.
More than 1,400 YMCAs nationwide will host the free community event on Saturday, April 26, encouraging children and their families to stay active both physically and mentally throughout the year.
The 11-week camp runs from June through August, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each week features a unique theme with games, crafts, and activities related to it. Participants also receive daily gym and pool time, and lunches are provided through the Lima City Schools Summer Lunch Program. The camp is open to children ages 6 to 12.
