LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — With spring comes the blooming of cherry blossom trees, and the Lima Sister Cities Association is gearing up for its annual festival. As part of the preparations, the organization is asking for volunteers to help spruce up the Sister City Garden.

Lima Sister Cities Association prepares for annual cherry blossom festival

The annual cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, ahead of the festival on April 12. Volunteers will spend the morning raking, weeding, and picking up trash to prepare the park for the celebration. This year’s festival will feature a few special events.

“We have a band coming from Columbus to perform traditional and modern Japanese music,” said Matthew Neeley, president of the Lima Sister Cities Association. “We have a vendor coming in with a pop-up shop for her kimonos. As well as we are having some educational areas, we will have Japanese storytelling.”

Those interested in helping with the cleanup should arrive at the park, located at 202 West Eureka Street, on Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own rakes, gloves, and other gardening equipment.

The Cherry Blossom Festival will take place on April 12 from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring live music, games, and activities at the park.
