A nice turnout of family and friends on hand for the Allen County Board of DD's fifth annual butterfly memorial.
Back in 2018, the idea was put together for an all-ability playground to replace the one that was at Marimor school. Now the project is officially complete and ready for play.
The Cable Road location is their 18th store that has gotten a complete makeover treatment, which includes updated seating and decorations. Plus includes technology upgrades like self-ordering kiosks and mobile ordering through the app. To make the celebration even better, the Lewis Family donated $30,000 to the Marimor Legacy Foundation for the All-Abilities Playground project.
The All-Abilities Playground located at 2550 Ada Road in Lima will be called Marimor Legacy Park and will include playground equipment, picnic tables, and more. The park will also have a path connecting to the Ottawa Metro Park. From Wednesday to Friday, volunteers will be on site constructing equipment for the playground. A group of students from Apollo Career Center will also be on hand to help with the build.
The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities met to accept a bid from Degen Excavating who is based in Lima, to build the park. The bid came in for over $289,000 which came in above what the board expected, causing them to seek additional fundraising of around $66,000.
A drive thru dinner will provide funds for a key project in Lima. The Kiwanis Club of Lima held a barbecue chicken dinner on Saturday.
Lima Kiwanis Club is competing with other Kiwanis Clubs in the Kiwanis International "Legacy of Play" contest with landscape structure. If they win, the prize money it will be enough to help purchase a piece of equipment for the playground.
