A large mulch fire broke out on the city's northeast side earlier Sunday afternoon and still burned into the evening hours. At around 3:15 p.m., the Bath Fire Department was called out to the Resource Recycling Center for reports of a large fire burning wooden pallets and recycled mulch. Shortly after, mutual aid arrived from 12 fire departments spanning Putnam, Allen, and Hardin counties.

The call came down just after 1 a.m. to 2145 N. Dixie Highway, lot number 49. Chief Joe Kitchen says the mobile home was heavily involved with fire and smoke showing. No one was home at the time and there were no injuries. Chief Kitchen says the damage was around $10,000. Fire departments from Lima, Beaverdam, and Perry Township were brought in to help. No word on what was the cause, firefighters spent about 3 hours on the scene. The renter of the home had no insurance and the Red Cross is helping out.

Bath Fire Chief Joe Kitchen says heavy smoke and fire were coming from a building just behind the main plant a little after 4 a.m. The building houses Dana's main compressor system, the fire didn't make it to the primary manufacturing plant.

Firefighters were called out to 608 E Williams Street at 12:40 p.m. Heavy smoke was seen coming from the home when crews arrived on the scene. Those living in the home were able to get out of the house before the fire trucks arrived, but firefighters had to rescue many domestic and exotic animals that were trapped in the home. There were a lot of personal items in the home which was preventing crews from fighting the fire from inside the home, so an aerial truck was used to attack it from above.

During their investigation, they talked to a juvenile who admitted that they set a bed on fire with a lighter they have found. The fire destroyed the trailer they were living in, and the wind spread the flames to another mobile home that was unoccupied at the time. No one was injured during the fire, and everyone got out safely.

Around 11:15 am on Thursday, they were called out the trailer park located on North Dixie Highway for a fully engulfed trailer fire. When they arrived, the wind spread the fire to a trailer next door. No one was home in either of the structures. Besides the wind, the Bath fire department had to deal with a lack of access to water, so additional trucks were called in.

The Bath Fire Department earning the EMS Silver Plus award from the American Heart Association’s Mission Lifeline program for cardiac treatment. The department applied for the honor by submitting detailed statistics of what they have implemented to improve their care of cardiac patients from the 9-1-1 call to treatment at the hospital.

Bath Township responded to a fire at Dana Corporation in Lima Thursday morning. When they made it to the scene around 10 a.m., firefighters saw light smoke coming through the ground level doors. All Dana employees evacuated the building safely before the fire department arrived. The fire originated from the furnace and was under control in 30 minutes.
