Miracle Manuel has been in and out of the foster care system, but now she has found a loving family that is adopting her and her siblings. Her new family has taught her the importance of giving back, so she created a nonprofit called “Platters for You” that will help children get what they need when they go into foster care.

A Lima man will be honored for his part in helping his community grow. Jessie Pope will receive the 2021 Community Legacy Service Award during the Community Enrichment Dinner to be held later this month.
His business puts on the Spotless Spring Showout annually as a fun way to celebrate their anniversary in the community, plus they do clothing drives to help others out. Sanders may have been born in California, but he has made Lima his home and continues to support the people that live here.
Courtney J. Owens will receive the 2021 Young Leadership Community Enrichment Image Award. She will be the Co-winner along with Matthew Sanders, who wrote a book with Owens titled "Sporadic Thoughts". Owens is the owner/operator of the Works of Courtney J. Owens, which encompasses life coaching, motivational speaking, and poetry. She has appeared during various community events as a speaker.
Thursday, organizers of the Community Enrichment Dinner announced this year’s award winners that will be recognized at the October 21st event. Eight individuals and one business have been chosen for their efforts and commitment to building a more inclusive and diverse business atmosphere.
The Community Enrichment Dinner is scheduled to take place Thursday, October 21st at 5:00 PM at the Lima Veteran's Memorial Civic & Convention Center. This year the event will be headlined with a musical group instead of a guest speaker. "Black Violin" will be performing for the event, with a special guest appearance by the Lima Area Youth Orchestra.
A new scholarship was announced to promote diversity within the Lima Police Department. The William K. Davenport Memorial Scholarship is being awarded by the Community Enrichment Dinner to an African American student in the Apollo Career Center's Basic Police Academy Program.
