Summertime is quickly approaching, and in Wapakoneta, that means the return of another season of "Party in the Park Summer Concert Series" has arrived! On Friday evening at Wapakoneta's Heritage Park, friends and families laid down their lawn chairs and rolled out their blankets to enjoy live music by the band Nixon Perry. Food vendors also brought out the salty and sweet snacks, and a designated DORA bar had beverages available for purchase with all proceeds supporting non-profit community service organizations in the Wapakoneta region. Organizers say not only do residents love the free concerts, they also have a chance to explore Downtown Wapakoneta.

It is official, Lima's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA for short, is now open! The DORA opened at 5 PM on Friday, allowing patrons to carry alcohol outside and between participating businesses within the assigned limits. All alcoholic beverages sold must be in the dedicated clear solo cups, and no outside drinks are allowed. Dora beverages from one establishment cannot be taken into another serving alcohol. However, they can be taken into retail shops that allow it. City officials say they were impressed with how DORAs worked in surrounding cities, and knew it was just the thing to help Lima evolve.
For the first time in two years, Downtown Lima, Inc. will hold their monthly First Fridays event this week, which coincides with the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) opening. The day will begin at 11 AM with several family-friendly activities. Live music starts in the afternoon with six acts throughout the day. On Friday, the city of Findlay will officially open their new Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA for short. Customers will now be allowed to openly carry alcohol in dedicated DORA cups within the assigned limits. Signs and decals on participating businesses will help guide patrons through the DORA, indicating whether they can enter with a drink, or where to dispose of them. Sixteen establishment can sell beverages in the cups, and many others will allow entrance into their buildings with them.
St. Marys City Council met Monday evening to discuss issues and ordinances. They had their first reading on an ordinance that would establish the St. Marys Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (SMORA). There is a proposed 5 businesses in the area that would receive permits to sell alcohol through this program. The area will be under 150 acres, and the hours will be from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. People in the area hope that this will showcase St. Marys and bring people to the city.
Earlier this month, Findlay City Council voted to submit their application to the state for a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area, or DORA for short. Approximately 95 acres of the downtown area would be dedicated for this. Customers of participating businesses could carry open containers of alcohol within the assigned limits. Council received a letter of support from local businesses for the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area(DORA) downtown and has received a request from Mayor David Berger to create legislation on the issue. Council also passed an ordinance on its first reading to enter into contract with Brandstetter Carroll, Inc. to prepare an aquatic feasibility study for the city, to decide if a new aquatic center is the way to move forward, since the Schoonover Pool has been closed, and estimated repairs and upgrades would cost more than a million dollars.
