Monday night was a special school board meeting for Lima City Schools as many staff and faculty members are honored for individual excellence.
The deadline for nominations has been extended to Dec. 31 as the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of State Fire Marshal and the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Division of EMS is continuing to accept nominations through the holiday season for the annual Ohio Fire Service Hall of Fame & Fire Awards ceremony. The expanded event will honor recipients April 26, 2023 at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in downtown Columbus.
Three school districts in Allen County presented proposals for alternative graduation paths with a goal to enhance readiness for the workforce.
Governor Mike DeWine making a stop at Apollo to check out some recently added programs to the career center. They have been working with local businesses to fill a specific need, which included firefighters, electricians and HVAC specialists. Some of these students are getting jobs right out of high school or working in an apprenticeship while they are going to school. Apollo officials say that the stigma of going the career tech route is a thing of the past and high-paying jobs are available with the hands-on training they are providing.
Educators from Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin Counties meeting to hear from Ruby Payne. A consultant and author that has spent countless hours studying the effects of emotion in the classroom. She says that students are coming back to the classroom about a year and a half emotionally behind from where they were before COVID. Mostly because they didn't get that interaction and development with other kids which can cause problems.
Hardin County – Mark Badertscher was selected as one of two Ohio Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Educators to be recognized for the National Association of County Agricultural Agents (NACAA) Achievement Award. The NACAA Achievement Award recognizes Extension Educators with less than ten years in the profession. The award was presented at the 2022 NACAA Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference held in West Palm Beach, Florida July 18-21.
Katte says that they need to find a balance between work and their life outside of school. The last school year was tough for a lot of districts, including Lima City Schools, and Katte says that they need to lean into the tough stuff and maximize every moment at school and at home, and know they are in the business of changing lives.
The Mazza Museum is gearing up for a month full of education and fun.
Students follow a daily schedule of classes and participate in ensembles for their chosen musical focus. The summer music camp is taught by professional musicians and music educators, including ONU music department faculty and alumni. The students are looking to take what they learned this week back to their home school music programs.
Rhodes State College President Cynthia Spiers adds, “Rhodes State has almost all the programs they’re looking for. We’re already beginning to bring A-1 which is also one of the programs they’re looking for. We’re very well positioned to provide what they need.”
