ELIDA, OH (WLIO) - Elida High School was on lockdown Friday afternoon after a false threat.

Local law enforcement is having good conversations over a cup of coffee. Today is "National Coffee with a Cop Day," and the Allen County Sheriff's Office picked up the tab for a free cup of coffee or tea at the Cable Road Biggby this morning. It's the ninth year for the national event that aims to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the public. Many deputies and officers were on hand having a positive interaction over a cup of coffee.

The Village of Elida is looking for what's next, this after the proposed levy to fund its police department went down to defeat on the ballot on November 7th. On top of boosting its law enforcement, police officials say additional funds freed up by the levy could have gone towards improving the roads.

The handheld MARCS radio is an officer's connection to assistance and information in their daily routine. The Elida Police Department is preparing to upgrade their radio system. They currently have the 1st generation MARCS which is now outdated and repair parts are not available. The Lima Eagles 370 Foundation has donated $3,000 towards the purchase of a new radio system for the Elida Police Department.

The intersection of Kiracofe and Greenlawn Avenue in Elida will be closed for an extended period of time due to a tanker versus pole accident. Authorities say that around noon, a tanker was traveling on Kiracofe Avenue when it turned onto Greenlawn Avenue, where it struck the curb and telephone pole.

This is a problem that Elida Police say they were anticipating as the November election draws closer. They say that people have had signs and even political flags stolen from their yards. The police remind the public that being caught stealing these signs could land several possible charges against you.

A woman is sent to the hospital after a crash on 309 Wednesday afternoon. The crash happened around noon in Elida.
