ELIDA, OH (WLIO) - Elida High School was on lockdown Friday afternoon after a false threat.

Police officers from American Township, Elida, and the Allen County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident and found that the threat was not credible.

Classes went into a hard lockdown around the end of the school day after several students turned in a threatening note found in a bathroom. Police officers from American Township, Elida, and the Allen County Sheriff's Office investigated the incident and found that the threat was not credible but remained on the grounds until students were released as a precaution.

School officials say law enforcement was talking to students after the incident. This is the second threat in the district this week alone, so the Elida Local Schools superintendent, Joel Mengerink, is urging parents to talk to their kids about the consequences of a bad joke or prank.

Two students were arrested this week after making alleged false threats at Bath Middle School, as well as another student from Findlay Middle School last week.

"Anybody that's involved in something like this almost automatically goes through an expulsion hearing, which means time away from school, which maybe means an extra year of school in some cases, maybe more. And then you've got the law enforcement side of things. Having to go to court and maybe spending time in JDC, whatever that punishment may be," Mengerink warned.
