The Lima-Allen County Regional Planning Commission (LACRPC) has announced Rebecca Phillips as its new executive director. The vote was made official in a special board meeting with the organization’s executive committee on Feb. 20. Phillips’ new role became effective immediately following the vote.

The Lima Community Improvement Corporation board members announced that Marcie Barlow will be running the organization that was started just a couple of years ago to help Lima maximize its development potential. Barlow has worked with similar organizations in Pennsylvania and southern Ohio, and she is ready to use her expertise in addressing the housing needs and economic development growth of Lima.

Students in grades 7th through 12th have the opportunity to participate in the program that will cover a variety of topics including career exploration, college applications and ACT and SAT testing preparation. It is being sponsored by the Smith-Jones Foundation and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Sigma Mu Omega Chapter.

Woof Boom radio stations in Lima continued their annual initiative to support Allen County Children Services with a gift drive to collect everything from toys and books to those everyday essentials like laundry detergent and diapers. They managed to pack the van full and unloaded the items today at their Towne Square studio. Money is tight for many during the holidays, and the goal is to lighten the load for the families they support.

Former Executive Director of the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, Micahael Schoenhofer, had a signing for his new book, "Let This Be a Lesson for You," at the Lima Public Library Main Branch. The book is a collection of blog posts he has written over the past ten years about mental health related topics. Over 40 of his posts are included in the book. The author says that this book is written for everyone, not just those who may be struggling.
