The memorial was spearheaded by a group of citizens who worked diligently to obtain the artifacts and raise private donations to make the project a reality. Organizers invite the public to visit the site to reflect and to teach their children and grandchildren about the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

On this 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, a local foundation announces a new location for a local memorial to remember that tragic day. The southeast corner of the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater will be home to the memorial. The Allen County 9/11 Memorial Foundation has been raising money to build the memorial. It will have artifacts from each of the three sites where nearly 3,000 people were killed by the terrorists.

Today at the mayor's media briefing, a long list of events was announced for the new Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater 2024 season. There are a variety of performances, ranging from the National Day of Prayer to multiple concerts to several festivals being held at the venue. The Civic Center is in charge of getting shows and setting up the calendar and is working hard to get affordable entertainment for the whole family.

Lima City Council was asked to formally apply for a $1.2 million grant from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC). This is already included in the project's $2.8 million budget. The city also requested to enter into contracts with the Veteran's Memorial Civic and Convention Center, and the Lima Rotary Club about the future operation of the park. The city would be responsible for maintaining the property, while the Civic Center would oversee events.
