Cynthia Scanland was scheduled to have a final pre-trial on August 1st, but they didn't go on record. A trial date of October 17th has been set. She was charged with three counts of tampering with records, and one count each of obstructing official business and dereliction of duty.
An Allen County man who is accused of having sex with minors in 2020 received his sentencing in court Thursday.
An Allen County man facing over 60 charges of having sex with minors has changed his plea in Allen County Common Pleas Court. 40-year-old Scott Steffes accepted plea deal that will have him plead guilty to 11 counts of sexual battery and five counts of felonious assault.
A hearing has been scheduled for Friday, for 40-year-old Scott Steffes. He and his husband Jeremy Kindle were charged in 2020 on multiple counts, including rape, sexual battery, and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. They both fostered and adopted boys. Kindle was recently sentenced to nearly 100 years in prison after he took a plea deal where over 40 charges were dropped against him, including all the counts of rape.
Judge Jeffrey Reed handed down a sentence of 94 years in prison for Jeremy Kindle. He plead guilty to 20 counts which included sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Kindle was also HIV positive and because of that he faced felonious assault charges for each of the victims. Kindle and his husband Scott Steffes who were adopted and foster parents, were charged with over 60 counts each of having sex with multiple boys, who’s ages range from 12 to 18 years old over a three-year period.
Jeremy Kindle was indicted on a total of 65 charges relating to sexual crimes. He faces charges that include rape, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and sexual battery. The defendant appeared for a pre-trial in Allen County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday. The state shared that a written offer for a resolution in the case was offered to Kindle on October 19th, 2021. Kindle has since rejected that offer.
A special prosecutor from Henry County on Scanland's case confirmed the charges are related to the investigation into children services. They date all the way back to 2015. Scanland will be arraigned Sept. 29. Scanland was fired as the director of children services following an internal investigation. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation also launched an investigation into the agency following the sexual abuse claims made against Jeremy Kindle and Scott Steffes.
Scott Steffes has decided to waive his right to a speedy trial to allow his attorney more time to prepare for his case. Steffes is facing 62 charges including unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and sexual battery. His partner, Jeremy Kindle, faces 65 similar charges. Kindle also signed a time waiver at the beginning of the month.

Kindle signed a time waiver to allow for more preparation in his case. He's been indicted on 65 charges including rape, sexual battery and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Kindle has pleaded not guilty to all of his charges.
His partner Scott Steffes has also been indicted on 62 similar charges. Both of them were foster and adoptive parents in Allen County.
Scott Steffes entered a written plea of not guilty to all 62 of his charges. The bulk of them are 25 counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and 26 counts of sexual battery. His partner, Jeremy Kindle, has also entered written pleas of not guilty to his 65 charges.The two of them were foster parents and we reported in 2018 they became adoptive parents.
