The Lima City School Board held a special meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the making policy in the district. Following the recommendation of their Director of Nursing and the Allen County Health Department, they voted to lift the mandate. The policy change will begin on Wednesday, and masks are no longer required for district transportation, school events, or in school. People can still wear masks if they choose to do so.
These kids were not only staying active at the Lima Family YMCA but getting creative as well. They were making masks, making new friends, and having fun with friends they had already met through the no-school day program. The “Y” offers this on major holidays that schools are out of session and the kids are happy their parents sign them up.

As COVID-19 cases rise in the state of Ohio due to the Omicron variant, local officials suspect that it has reached the county. Allen County Public Health states that while there has not been medical confirmation on a Omicron case in the county, they suspect that it has reached the area.
The Center for Disease Control uses the total number of cases per 100-thousand persons in the last 7-days and the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in the last seven days to determine the level of transmission. As of August 1st, Allen County has a rate of nearly 65 cases per-100-thousand persons. That is considered as “substantial transmission”. The percentage of positivity has gone from 5.6% up to just over 11% in the last seven days as well. Local health officials say now is the time we need to change our strategy in limiting the spread.
The governor reminds residents that restrictions continue through June 1st. He says the state's number of cases per 100,000 is steadily coming down. He accounts that to the vaccine. On June 2nd residents will have the option to not wear masks and that goes hand in hand with businesses choosing whether masks will be required or not after June 1st.
With Gov. Dewine lifting the mask mandate, on top of other COVID-19 related health orders, it will be up to each individual person and each business to decide if they will be ditching the masks or not.

A public health alert has been issued by Allen County Public Health after COVID-19 numbers continue to rise. Allen County's per capita COVID-19 cases is currently at 248.17, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
