Lima City Schools drop mask mandate

The Lima City School Board held a special meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the making policy in the district. Following the recommendation of their Director of Nursing and the Allen County Health Department, they voted to lift the mandate. The policy change will begin on Wednesday, and masks are no longer required for district transportation, school events, or in school. People can still wear masks if they choose to do so.

Jill Ackerman, Superintendent of the Lima City School District said, “What led us to this decision is certainly the data behind the COVID cases in Allen County, in Ohio, nationally. We have always operated off of the recommendations from the CDC. We have a great, close relationship with our local health department, Allen County Health Department so in consolation, with them, we arrived at that decision as well.”

They will continue to monitor the cases and could bring back the mandate if needed.
