LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Families took advantage of the pleasant weather Sunday to celebrate Mother's Day at Faurot Park.

If you didn't know, Mother's Day is this Sunday, but a local event could help you get the gift that will make her day. This Saturday, May 11, there will be a Mother's Day Sip & Shop at the LACNIP resource center. With a mocktail in hand, you can visit around 15 different local vendors that are selling sweet treats, jewelry, decorations, and more.
Johnny Appleseed Park District brought families out to check out all the colors that Kendrick Woods has to offer for a Spring Wildflower Walk. Since it is the park district's 50th anniversary, they gave walkers a sheet with pictures of the 50 most common wildflowers in their parks, that they can identify along the path. If you like flowers, you only have a few weeks to get out and enjoy them.
According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are predicted to buy more for their moms this year than in the past couple of years. Gifters are estimated to be spending around $220, and the top three gift categories are flowers, greeting cards, and special outings. "Blooms" in Lima have been seeing an influx of people coming in for mother’s day gifts, most of them going straight for the hanging baskets.
Linda Simms enjoys the fellowship, “They have made me part of the Bradifield family here. All of us have so this is a celebration and home for all of us today. And it’s so much fun to have been just siting and say hey, I’m glad that you’re you. I’m glad that you’re here.”
Chicken prepared by Scooters Catering was hot off the grill starting at 11A.M. on Mother’s Day and sold out fairly quick. For every meal bought, a portion of the money went toward the Firefighters Helping Lima charity fund that continues to support local nonprofit organizations with the help of fundraisers like these.
Celebrating Mother’s Day during a pandemic isn’t the easiest, but it’s not impossible--especially with local businesses trying to help make that day special.

LuLu’s diner wanted to have a celebration for 10 years of providing the community with tasty breakfast plates, but the Coronavirus put a damper on those plans. The owners of LuLu’s have not given up yet, though. They’ve planned days worth of treats for their customers. Sunday will be the last day of their celebration, and the most generous day of treats.
As this Mother’s Day approaches, many florists breathing a sigh of relief as the Governor’s Responsible Re-open of Ohio may save one of their biggest sales weekends of the year. Haehn Florist in Wapakoneta has been open in a limited capacity with their greenhouse but have been slowly increasing sales since the announcement that retail can get back up and operating soon. They say their suppliers have been operating and are shipping fresh flowers just in time for mom’s big day. But along with many businesses they wanted to make sure what they are doing is following state guidelines during the pandemic.
