Wildflower walk brings people out to enjoy the parks on Mother's Day

A bouquet of flowers is a nice gift for mom on Mother’s Day, but how about a whole park full of flowers?

Johnny Appleseed Park District brought families out to check out all the colors that Kendrick Woods has to offer for a Spring Wildflower Walk. Since it is the park district's 50th anniversary, they gave walkers a sheet with pictures of the 50 most common wildflowers in their parks, that they can identify along the path. If you like flowers, you only have a few weeks to get out and enjoy them.

“During April and May, we have wonderful wildflowers blooming. We call them ephemeral because they only last for a very short time and you will not see them again until next year,” says Beth Theisen, Naturalist JAMPD. “So we are getting out today on this gorgeous afternoon to see which of the wildflowers we can actually find. Getting out in the parks is really good for our health, so any chance that we get to take a hike in our parks is a wonderful day.”
