The city of St. Marys has sworn in a new police chief to lead the department. Formerly a sergeant, Lucas Turpin took the oath and became the St. Marys Police Chief at Monday night’s City Council meeting. The promotion comes after former Chief Brian Christopher accepted a voluntary demotion back to police officer as part of a Last Chance Agreement.
“The FBI wants the chief to know they are a resource for the department,” Nelsen said. “It’s all about partnerships. Any chance we get to shake a chief's hand, hear about what they do, and talk about how we can work together is a good day, and that's why we're here—just to congratulate the chief.”
