The city of St. Marys has sworn in a new police chief to lead the department. Formerly a sergeant, Lucas Turpin took the oath and became the St. Marys Police Chief at Monday night’s City Council meeting. The promotion comes after former Chief Brian Christopher accepted a voluntary demotion back to police officer as part of a Last Chance Agreement.

The Lima Fraternal Order of Eagles #370 donated $3,000 to help the Shawnee police pay for new radios for their officers. Their current radios are outdated, and if they break, it is no longer possible to purchase replacement parts. As other agencies are also upgrading radios, Shawnee Township wants to make sure that their radio systems are compatible, because they're so important in their work.

The funds will be utilized to purchase each officer a Trijicon Red Dot Optic for their department issued duty weapon. This is a growing trend in our profession, as numerous studies have demonstrated it promotes better performance and enhanced accuracy for officers. For the second time in two days, the Lima Police are investigating a shots fired into a home call. Officers responded to the 2100 block of Lakewood Avenue around 9:25 p.m. Thursday for reports of shots being fired.  They found a home was struck and they believe the suspect took off towards Spencerville Road.
