A wanted man by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office has been captured. In a Facebook post, Sheriff Brian Siefker's office reported that Joe Vera III was apprehended at 1:40 a.m. Monday morning. The sheriff's office had posted over the weekend that Vera was wanted on warrants for aggravated burglary, strangulation, escape, and aggravated robbery. Vera also has a nationwide warrant through AAPA for parole violations.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is requesting information from the public about the whereabouts of a wanted man. In a Facebook post Saturday Night, Sheriff Brian Siefker's office is looking for Joe Vera III, who is 6 feet and weighs 190 pounds. The sheriff's office says that Vera has warrants for aggravated burglary, strangulation, escape, and aggravated robbery. Vera also has a nationwide warrant through APA for parole violations.

Two people were taken to the hospital after a train struck a car in Columbus Grove Thursday morning. Putnam County sheriff's deputies say the crash happened at the railroad crossing at Main Street just after 9:30 a.m. 23-year-old Honesty Mallory of Lima was heading south on Main Street when she was struck by a CSX train that was also heading south. Mallory and two passengers were able to get out of the car on their own; the two passengers were taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita's with non-life-threatening injuries.

The village of Continental is under a boil alert after a water line break on the south side of the village. The Putnam County Sheriff's Office says that the village water department is putting Continental under an alert as a precautionary measure, advising residents to boil water that will be used for drinking or cooking. The boil alert will be in effect until testing results meet EPA standards, possibly around 48 hours.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s office is investigating a motorcycle crash that left an Ottoville man seriously injured.  The just before 3 am Saturday morning, deputies were called to road 25P just outside of Ottoville.  There they found Jasper Fout alongside the roadway next to a motorcycle.   Fout was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s with life threatening injuries.  He was not wearing a helmet a the time of the crash and deputies say that alcohol is a contributing factor.  The crash remains under investigation.
