Our Daily Bread held a "Drop Your Change for Good" fundraiser at the Clocktower Plaza Saturday afternoon. There was face painting and a bouncy house for the kids and chicken dinners, hot dogs, and live music for everyone to enjoy. Our Daily Bread does not get any government funding. All the money they use for the soup kitchen and more comes from donations and grants. This is the 3rd year for their fundraiser and it keeps getting bigger each year.
Mercy Health Saint Rita’s donating $25,000 to the kitchen to help with any needs that they have. The money comes from the medical center’s “Management Leadership Group” that works on projects that fit their core mission of serving. Officials from Our Daily say they will use the donation for some remodeling of the facility including a second front entry and public showers.
Barrels were out as several locations asking for specific items for 3 local non-profits. We caught up with them at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen as they dropped off items including personal hygiene items, gloves, and more. Organizers say that the community really came together to donate, and the recipients were thankful for all they received.
The director of Our Daily Bread wants everyone to know that the soup kitchen will remain open as long as the health department allows it. Randy Kimpel is the director of Our Daily Bread and knows how important it is for him to continue to run the soup kitchen through the mass closings. For some people, Our Daily Bread is their only form of shelter and the only food that’s available to them.
