It was a day of giving for the city of Lima as the donations of their first MLK Day of Service project were distributed.

Barrels were out as several locations asking for specific items for 3 local non-profits. We caught up with them at Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen as they dropped off items including personal hygiene items, gloves, and more. Organizers say that the community really came together to donate, and the recipients were thankful for all they received.

Our Daily Bread Director Randy Kimpel adds, “That’s the way we survive is through donations of the community. We’re not government-funded or anything like that. So, it’s the community that keeps us going.”

The City of Lima Neighborhood Specialist Sydni Winkler comments, “I think it was super successful. We have all 3-bins that are full, and we even got some toilet paper and paper towels donated. So, we even have a couple other things that we had to throw in the trunk. So, I think it was super successful for our first year of doing this.”

Donations were also dropped off at the Samaritan House and the West Ohio Food Bank.
