The deal that was offered to Romiere Hale back in December of 2021 would have had him plead guilty to one count of murder as well as three counts of endangering children. Since the time the plea deal was offered, Hale was appointed new representation in his case, and because of that, the Lima man as well as his new lawyer will have time until September 30th of this year to review the plea deal.

Romiere Hale was indicted with three counts of endangering children, one count of murder, and one count of involuntary manslaughter. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on April 12th of 2021, where 4-year-old Ma'Laya DeWitt was found unresponsive. Hale appeared in court for a motion hearing. The state submitted a motion to have specific language in the indictment changed. The judge residing over the case will now review the motion and render a decision at a later date.

That Delphos indictment is on Jerry L. Spurr, who was indicted on two counts of Aggravated Arson. One count is a felony 1, while the other is a felony 2. In Lima, two individuals have been indicted on an incident that occurred on April 13th of this year, when officers found four-year-old Malaya Dewitt unresponsive at 535 North Elizabeth Street. Dewitt was later pronounced deceased.

The Lima Police Department responded to a call of an unresponsive four-year-old at 535 North Elizabeth Street on April 13th, 2021 at 2:08 P.M. The child was transported from the scene to a local area hospital, where lifesaving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful. The child was then pronounced deceased. The child was identified as Ma'laya Dewitt. One suspect was then arrested. Romiere Hale, 21-years-old of Lima, is being held at the Allen County Jail. Hale was a member of the household and is the boyfriend of Dewitt's mother.

A large crowd gathered in the square of downtown Lima to remember the life of Ma'laya Dewitt. Pictures of the little girl's smiling face lined the table as friends and family took a moment to look back on the memories. A portion of the crowd held out "Justice for Ma'laya" signs. They want to make sure that the charges are followed through within court with the two people involved with her death.

An arrest has been made in the death of a four-year-old child. The Lima Police Department responded to a call of an unresponsive four year old at 535 North Elizabeth Street on April 13th, 2021 at 2:08 P.M. One suspect has been arrested. Romiere Hale, 21-years-old of Lima, is being held at the Allen County Jail. Hale is being held on a charge of Child Endangerment. The mother of the child was also interviewed on scene. Injuries were also found present on her body.
