But the pattern of the storm has not been consistent, sometimes we will get a stretch of flurries, other times, periods of calm. But the weather can change at just a minute's notice. There is plenty of snow to plow at restaurant parking lots, sidewalks, and more. Contractors have been busy helping clear out areas that the city and county cannot get to.
Lt. Alec Coil, Post commander of the Ohio Highway Patrol Lima Post, says that leaving early can be the difference in reaching your destination not only on time but safely. Coil also urges drivers to give space to snowplows that they might find on roadways.
A snowy start to the day with extremely hazardous travel conditions. The winter storm is behaving just as expected. As mentioned all week, the core of our winter storm hits today. The snow will be steady all day, finally diminishing after 9PM. Final storm totals will generally range from 9-12", with localized higher totals. The other issue is the wind. Northeast to north winds gusting around 30mph will create blowing and drifting. Even when the snow stops falling, the blowing and drifting will continue into Friday morning.
North and west Ohio escaped a major snowstorm that impacted the eastern half of the state overnight. Snow totals are coming in over a foot just east of Cleveland! That said, mother nature isn't leaving us out completely. A burst of snow showers is producing a light dusting this morning which could create some slippery travel. Expect a few snow showers through the day with highs in the low 30s. Travel impacts should become minimal for the afternoon.
Patchy drizzle and grey skies stick around today, but temperatures won't be too shabby for late December! Expect highs in the lower 40s.
The City of Lima is ready to tackle the winter weather; crews are expecting to be out throughout the evening as the storm continues, hitting the main roads first and moving on to residential areas once the storm slows down later on.
