The William Fowler Science Series is collaboration between the city, Lima City Schools and Ohio State Lima, and not only gives students a chance to learn more about the series' theme, but also about the research that professors do.
Students were arriving to school bright and early for the first day back to in-person classes since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Parents of South Science and Technology Magnet students dropped off their kids for their temperature check before they headed into the building.
South Science and Technology Magnet 8th graders are not giving up on their dream of changing the name of the Jameson Street overpass. The students started filming a video called. Fowler: reclaiming a hero. In an effort to start a media blitz to get the community behind changing the overpass name to William A. Fowler memorial overpass. Fowler is a Nobel Prize Winner from Lima and he grew up in a house right near the overpass. The students are actually going through the civic process of changing the name with city council. At the same time, they are learning more about Fowler and documenting it with the help of Modo Media by making it into a mockumentary style video. The students say it's important lima residents know who fowler is and that he is honored by the city.
A Lima City Schools graduate was honored Tuesday evening for making his mark in the scientific world. Eighth-grade students at the South Science and Technology Magnet dedicated their garden project to the late William A. Fowler. Fowler, an astrophysicist and winner of the Nobel Prize in physics in 1983, was a graduate of the Lima City Schools and the Ohio State University.
It was a beautiful day to be out on the farm, or have the farm brought to you. That's just what happened at Lima City Schools South Science and Technology Magnet school. Cows, sheep, chickens, and rabbits seemed to be the popular stops as kindergartners and 4th graders throughout the school district got to be up close and personal with the animals. The youngsters also got lessons on farm equipment, healthy eating, and exercise along with the chance to make butter.
