A Lima City Schools graduate was honored Tuesday evening for making his mark in the scientific world.
Eighth-grade students at the South Science and Technology Magnet dedicated their garden project to the late William A. Fowler. Fowler, an astrophysicist and winner of the Nobel Prize in physics in 1983, was a graduate of the Lima City Schools and the Ohio State University. This series of projects began back in 2015, and the focus of this year's project was the symbiotic relationships that are present in gardens. This project was done in partnership with the City of Lima and the Ohio State University at Lima.
"Fowler, because he won the Nobel Prize, is an inspiration for the students," said Dr. Jackie Augustine, Tri-Moraine Audubon Society. "And so, we want to give them opportunities where they can discover things themselves. And in this project, they discovered what plants and insects are related to each other."
Next year's eighth-grade students plan to make a documentary about Fowler's life and his overall contribution to astrophysics.
