As the current trash removal contract nears expiration at the end of November, Lima City Council will have to look for a new contract. The utilities committee met to discuss the next trash collection contract. There were two bids: one from Waste Management for $19 more a month than the current rate and Rumpke, for $5 more per month than the current rate.
With 4 weekends of dumpster sites, nearly 83-tons of trash was collected with 302 residents participating. Just over a thousand tires were collected along with 37 cubic yards of brush. The most unusual items being disposed of was a grandfather clock and giant French doors. The city had 82 volunteers give of their time at 14 locations. “City Wide Pride” has been offered as a free service to residents since 1993.
They are talking trash. Yes, literally trash and how it is not being properly placed in the city receptacles for pick up. The utilities department has been getting dozens of complaints from residents and city council members about trash that is blowing around streets and neighborhoods. They want to remind people that the receptacle is to be placed by the curb with the wheels facing the house for trucks to pick up and empty it properly. If it’s not facing wheels to the house, lids will be broken and trash not in bags will blow out.
