Volunteers spent Saturday morning helping out with the Ottawa River Clean-Up. The annual event gives people the chance to help keep one of the main waterways in our area free from trash. People got gloves, trash bags, and a designated part of the river to clean up starting from Shawnee and Perry Townships, all the way to Bath Township. When you have a natural resource like the Ottawa River and the Rotary River Walk, organizers are glad to see people stepping up to take care of them.
“It runs all the way through the city, that is something that we should take pride in. Something that everyone has to look at,” says Autumn Swanson, Ottawa River Clean-Up Event Committee. “With that being said we need to be out there cleaning it up and keeping is pristine as it should be. One of the things that we were talking about with this event is, it is really important throughout the year that we stress don’t dump your trash by the river, don’t dump it in the river. Just keep this area clean, because it’s a part of community pride.”
The Ottawa River Clean-up has been going on for 15 years.
