LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Mayor Sharetta Smith and her administration will continue their “Walking the Wards” initiative throughout the month of May, offering residents a chance to voice concerns and connect with city leaders in a relaxed setting.
The initiative not only fosters dialogue but also encourages city officials to actively participate in neighborhood improvement efforts.
Shane Coleman, Lima’s chief of staff, said the April walks were well received by community members who came out to engage with the mayor and her team.
“It’s a great opportunity to talk about streets, sidewalks, curbs,” Coleman said. “There’s been a lot of talk about trash, so we’ve been looking at that too—actually bringing along trash bags with us now to pick up litter during the walks. We’re really getting involved.”
The initiative not only fosters dialogue but also encourages city officials to actively participate in neighborhood improvement efforts.
City leaders are hoping to see even more residents join the walks and take an interest in their communities. The next walk is scheduled for May 6 in Ward 6-C, beginning at 5 p.m. at Philippian Missionary Baptist Church on 8th Street.
