ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — The nightcap at the Elida Fieldhouse featured a Division VII district semifinal between the Minster Wildcats and the Upper Scioto Valley Rams.
Upper Scioto Valley entered the matchup having won five of its last six games, while Minster came in red hot with nine wins in its last ten.
The Wildcats wasted no time getting started. Andrew Ketner buried a three-pointer to put Minster on the board first.
Moments later, Cole McClurg fired a pass to Hillsdale College commit Cole Albers, who finished inside for two of his 15 points as the Wildcats opened the game on an 8-0 run.
Upper Scioto Valley eventually found its rhythm. Beau Sanders pushed the pace on a fast break and finished at the rim. The junior led the Rams with 14 points.
Minster responded quickly. Capital University commit Cole McClurg attacked the basket and finished a layup as the Wildcats continued to maintain control. McClurg finished with nine points.
The Rams kept battling, though. Andrue Kindle drove through the defense and knocked down a floater as the senior added 11 points.
But in the second half, Minster pulled away behind Beckham Stephey. The sophomore glided to the basket and finished strong on his way to a game-high 17 points.
Minster went on to defeat Upper Scioto Valley 61-41 to advance in the Division VII tournament.
The Wildcats will take on Kalida for the district title in Van Wert on Saturday, March 7th.
