LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Shawnee Indians continued their strong late-season run Friday night, defeating the Rogers Rams 64-46 in Division III tournament play at Lappin Gymnasium.

Shawnee, champions of the Western Buckeye League, entered the matchup having won eight of its last nine games. The Indians used a decisive second-half surge to pull away from Rogers, which represents the Toledo City League.

Leading 34-27 in the third quarter, senior Beckett Bertke extended Shawnee’s advantage with a layup in transition. Moments later, he connected on a straightaway 3-pointer to push the lead to 13 points.

Shawnee closed the third quarter on a strong note when Sullivan Hastings converted a three-point play, helping the Indians take a 48-35 lead into the fourth.

In the final quarter, Trevick Bertke sliced through the defense for consecutive layups, helping seal the victory. The junior finished second on the team in scoring with 18 points.

Beckett Bertke led all scorers with 28 points and added 21 rebounds to record a double-double.

Shawnee advances to face Bowling Green Bobcats next Thursday at Liberty-Benton High School. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
