Hilliard, Ohio (WLIO) — The Shawnee Indians saw their nine-match winning streak come to an end Thursday night, falling to Bloom-Carroll in a five-set heartbreaker, 3–2.
Shawnee started strong, taking the opening set 25–15 behind crisp execution and quick work at the net from senior Addie Kriegel, whose kill midway through the frame put the Indians up 12–9.
Gianna Upshaw added to the momentum, hammering home a set from Chelsea Burkholder to help secure the early advantage.
But Bloom-Carroll rallied in the second and third sets, winning 25–19 and 25–21 as the Bulldogs’ attack began to find rhythm.
Shawnee kept pace behind sophomore Cadence Wilson, who connected on several key kills off feeds from Burkholder, but the Tribe couldn’t close out either frame.
Refusing to go quietly, Shawnee responded in the fourth. Josie Hutchins delivered an ace that energized the crowd as the Indians cruised to a 25–19 win to force a decisive fifth set.
In the tiebreaker, senior Karleigh Hutchins opened with an ace to give Shawnee an early two-point lead.
But Bloom-Carroll surged back with a 13–6 run, clinching the match 15–10 on a final kill.
Shawnee's season ends in a five set heart-breaker.Â
