HARROD, Ohio (WLIO) — Bluffton Pirates used a strong first half and timely second-half scoring to defeat the Allen East Lady Mustangs 44-28 on Thursday night, spoiling Allen East’s push for the Northwest Conference title.
Allen East (5-1 in Northwest Conference play entering the night) fell behind early and trailed by double digits in the second quarter before cutting into the deficit.
Junior Evelyn Lehman knocked down a straightaway 3-pointer to help trim the first-half margin.
Bluffton responded on its next key possession as Blair Utendorf buried a corner 3-pointer to extend the lead. The Pirates carried a 21-14 advantage into halftime.
The Mustangs stayed within striking distance late in the third quarter when Brooklynn Crumrine scored on a layup inside to keep the deficit manageable.
However, Bluffton maintained control down the stretch. Utendorf added a fast-break basket in the second half as the Pirates steadily widened the gap.
Bluffton closed out the regular season with a 12-10 record, securing the 44-28 victory.
