BLUFFTON, Ohio (WLIO) — The Bluffton men’s basketball team was searching for its first win of the season on Saturday as the Beavers hosted Hiram inside the Sommer Center.
Early in the first half, Bluffton trailed by three before Justice Thompson knocked down a corner three to tie the game at 20. Moments later, the freshman connected again from long range, providing six points off the bench.
The Beavers created momentum on the defensive end as well, forcing a turnover that led to William Layfield finding Brendan Williams in transition for an easy bucket. Williams later added a three-pointer of his own and finished with nine points.
Bluffton went into halftime trailing by one. In the second half, Andre Irving helped keep the Beavers within reach, hitting a pull-up jumper and later banking in another shot. Irving led all scorers with 20 points.
Despite the late push, Bluffton came up short, falling to Hiram 70–67.
