BOTKINS, Ohio (WLIO) — Botkins put together a decisive run before halftime and held on down the stretch to earn a 47-40 girls basketball win over Elida on its home floor.
The game was tight early, with the teams locked at 10 midway through the second quarter. Botkins junior Brianna Egbert attacked the lane and finished through traffic to give the Lady Trojans a spark, while Elida answered moments later when Emma Mitchell found Shae Rager for a jumper that knotted the score at 12.
From there, Botkins seized control heading into the break. Lauren Gerstner scored inside during a key stretch that helped the Lady Trojans close the half on an 11-0 run, sending Botkins into the locker room with a 23-12 advantage.
Elida continued to battle in the second half, trimming the margin behind strong rebounding and ball movement. Lexie Good grabbed an offensive board and kicked the ball out to Emma Mitchell for a basket as the Bulldogs worked to stay within reach.
However, Botkins consistently answered. Taylor Huelskamp made her presence felt in the paint, cleaning up missed shots and finishing strong around the rim. The senior led all scorers with 20 points, helping the Lady Trojans maintain their edge through the final minutes.
With the win, Botkins is now 7-7, while Elida falls to 8-5.
