ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — The nightcap of the Vicki Mauk Holiday Classic at the Elida Fieldhouse featured a MAC versus WBL girls basketball matchup as New Knoxville squared off against Elida.
The Lady Rangers entered the contest still searching for their first win of the season, while the Lady Bulldogs were looking to climb back to the .500 mark.
Elida wasted little time getting on the board in the opening quarter. Junior Lilly Sifrit scored on a turnaround shot, part of her 12-point night. New Knoxville answered on the other end when Addi Albers found her younger sister Avery for a basket, two of Avery’s seven points.
Albers later took matters into her own hands, driving strong to the hoop for a team-high 11 points for the Rangers. Elida responded from long range as Emma Mitchell knocked down a three-pointer to put the Bulldogs ahead by three.
The Bulldogs continued to build momentum behind Shae Rager, who connected on a turnaround jumper before adding a fadeaway later in the game. Rager finished with 12 points. Claire Dingledine added six points, including a layup off the glass, as Elida extended its lead.
Defensively, the Lady Dogs applied pressure throughout the night. Lexie Good came up with a steal and converted an easy bucket, while Mitchell added a hook shot in the paint to cap off the scoring run.
Elida cruised to a 50–23 victory and will face Allen East in the championship game, scheduled for 4:30 P.M.
