LIMA (WLIO) — Miller City is moving on in the Division VII baseball tournament after a dominant win over Putnam County League rival Continental.
The Wildcats defeated the Pirates 11-0 in five innings during sectional final action Tuesday night.
Miller City wasted little time getting the offense going in the opening inning. Caleb Reichley put the Wildcats on the board when his ground ball to third resulted in an errant throw to first, allowing a run to score.
Moments later, Henry Rump lined a base hit through the infield to bring home Jonathon Pester and extend the lead to 2-0.
Continental pitcher Rhettik Bowers settled in briefly after that, recording one of his four strikeouts in the game with one out in the inning.
But the Wildcats continued to apply pressure and eventually plated four runs in the first inning to take control early.
Miller City went on to secure the 11-0 run-rule victory in five innings and advances to next Thursday’s Division VII district semifinals.
The Wildcats will face either Fort Jennings or Holgate at Patrick Henry, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
