NEW BREMEN, Ohio (WLIO) — New Bremen overcame a halftime deficit to earn a narrow 40-38 victory over Coldwater in Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Cardinals, now 13-8 overall, were seeking their third league win, while the Cavaliers entered at 9-9 hoping to even their conference record and move above .500.
New Bremen grabbed a brief edge in the second quarter when Charles Nelson knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Cardinals a 12-10 lead.
Coldwater answered quickly as Josh Schroer cut inside for a basket to tie the game at 12.
Later in the half, Gavin Dicke found Gavin Quellhorst for a score, part of a strong stretch for the Cavaliers that gave them a 23-18 advantage at halftime.
Coldwater extended its lead in the third quarter when Nolan Gruss converted a rebound and putback. Gruss finished with a team-high 15 points.
New Bremen continued to battle, with Dicke again connecting with Quellhorst, who rattled in a 3-pointer to keep the Cardinals within striking distance.
The Cardinals completed the comeback in the closing moments, edging the Cavaliers by two points to secure the conference victory.
