ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Ottoville Big Green saw their postseason run end in heartbreaking fashion Saturday night, falling 2–1 to Ottawa Hills in the Division V district championship in Elida.
Tied 1–1 early in the second half, Ottawa Hills broke through when Savio Deiger fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Green Bears a 2–1 advantage.
Ottoville keeper Chase Furley came up clutch moments later, making a big stop to keep the deficit at one and give the Big Green a chance late.
With under three minutes to go, Ottoville earned an indirect kick as Caleb Mansfield sent it in toward Nick Brandeberry, who was hunting for his second goal of the night — but the Ottawa Hills keeper made a diving slap save to preserve the lead.
Ottoville had one final throw-in opportunity from Ty Horstman in the closing seconds, but the Green Bears shut the door to secure the district title.
