LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — In a battle of Western Buckeye League contenders, Shawnee protected its home turf and handed Bath its first loss of the season, 31-21.
The Indians struck just before halftime when Haroun Jmiai nailed a field goal with two seconds remaining, giving Shawnee a 17-14 lead at the break.
They carried that momentum into the third quarter as JJ Spker powered his way across the goal line to make it a 10-point game.
Bath answered in the fourth when quarterback Zach Welsch connected with Mikey Hale, who broke free for a touchdown to cut the Wildcats’ deficit to three.
But Shawnee slammed the door late, as Isaac Meeks hauled in a spectacular one-handed touchdown catch to seal the win.
The victory improves Shawnee to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in league play — marking the first time since 2021 the Indians have opened conference action undefeated. Bath drops to 3-1.
