WLIO — For the first time ever, Texas will open the college football season as the nation’s No. 1 team in the Associated Press Top 25.

Reigning national champion Ohio State begins at No. 3, continuing a run of preseason elite status. Since 2013, the Buckeyes have been ranked in the top 10 every year and in the top five 11 times.

This is also the fifth time in the last nine seasons that Ohio State starts in the top three. Today’s announcement extends another historic streak — the Buckeyes have now appeared in the AP preseason poll 37 consecutive years, the longest run in history and 11 years longer than any other program in the country.

The Big Ten, winners of the last two national titles, has two of the top three teams for the third straight year and places six teams in the Top 25 overall.
