BLUFFTON, Ohio (WLIO) — Van Buren continued its strong start to the season, picking up its seventh straight win with a 59-42 victory over Bluffton.
The Black Knights set the tone early in the first quarter. Cole Bishop came up with a steal and went coast-to-coast for the and-one, giving Van Buren an early lead. Bluffton responded with crisp ball movement, capped off by senior Robby Taylor finishing at the rim to pull the Pirates within one.
Van Buren’s defense continued to create opportunities as the quarter went on. Finn Martin cashed in on the other end after another turnover, pushing the Black Knights back in front. Bluffton stayed within striking distance thanks to Bean Ginther, who knocked down a step-back three.
The Black Knights took control as the game progressed. Grady Miller provided a spark on the glass, grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back up and in as Van Buren began to pull away.
Van Buren’s balanced scoring and defensive pressure proved to be the difference, as the Black Knights rolled to a 59-42 win and improved their winning streak to seven games.
