SHAWNEE — Wapakoneta kept its perfect season alive and extended its Western Buckeye League dominance Friday night, defeating Shawnee 42-14 at Shawnee Stadium.

The Redskins, now 7-0, seized control early and never let go. After Shawnee pulled within 16-7 in the second quarter behind a powerful run from Isaac Meeks, Wapakoneta responded with a momentum-shifting interception by Ryan Richardson. The senior returned the pick deep into Shawnee territory, setting up quarterback Caleb Moyer’s 12-yard touchdown strike to Jarrett Mullen.

From there, Wapakoneta’s offense took off. In the third quarter, Moyer showcased his improvisation skills, keeping the play alive before finding Mullen wide open in the end zone to stretch the lead to 35-7.

Shawnee quarterback JJ Spyker added a late score for the Indians, but it wasn’t nearly enough to slow down the Redskins, who captured their 23rd straight league victory.

The win sets up Wapakoneta as the clear front-runner in the WBL heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
