WAYNESFIELD, Ohio (WLIO) — After opening the season with a win over Kenton, Waynesfield-Goshen returned home Friday night but came up short against a strong North Central squad, falling 60–45.
The Eagles jumped out early as Jackson Poynter scored in the lane to put North Central ahead by two. Waynesfield-Goshen answered moments later when senior Jayden Michael banked in a basket from the paint to keep the Tigers within striking distance.
Freshman Bentley Barnes provided a spark off a feed from Keygan Morse, cutting the deficit to four as W-G tried to build some momentum. The Tigers continued to battle as Corbin Barnes found Turner Thompson on the perimeter for a smooth long two.
Thompson kept the offense rolling. He scored on a bounce-pass feed inside, then moments later drilled another jumper off a setup from Morse as W-G fought to remain within reach.
But North Central’s steady scoring and depth proved too much in the second half. The Eagles pulled away down the stretch, handing Waynesfield-Goshen its first loss of the season with a 60–45 final.
