LIMA (WLIO) — Van Wert High School punched its ticket to the Division 4 district final after rallying past Bath High School 6-1 in a Western Buckeye League postseason matchup at Fort Jennings.
Bath broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Jaden Miller lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Alex Walls to tag up and score for a 1-0 Wildcat lead.
Van Wert answered in the sixth.
Brayson Davis drove in the tying run with an opposite-field hit before Jace Huebner followed with a ground ball that bounced off the second base bag, bringing home two more runs to put the Cougars in front 3-1.
Van Wert continued to add insurance runs before freshman Easton Putman shut the door in the seventh inning, striking out the side in order to finish the victory.
The Cougars advance to Friday’s Division 4 district final, where they will face Bryan back at Fort Jennings.
