Versailles shuts out St. John’s, moves to 3-0 with dominant 35-0 Win
DELPHOS, OH (WLIO) — Versailles leaned on its ground game and tough defense Friday night to remain unbeaten, rolling past St. John’s 35-0 in a Midwest Athletic Conference matchup at Stadium Park. Running back Landyn Knapke led the way for the Tigers (3-0), scoring twice and setting the tone early with a long first-quarter touchdown run. Knapke broke a tackle and tiptoed down the sideline for the score with just under nine minutes to go in the opening quarter — the only points in a low-scoring first half. But the Tigers turned it on after the break. Midway through the third quarter, Knapke struck again, this time juking a defender and diving into the end zone to extend the lead to 14-0. Just before the quarter ended, quarterback Ethan Wilker connected on a deep touchdown pass to stretch the margin to 21. Versailles would tack on two more scores in the fourth quarter as the defense completed the shutout and the Tigers defeated the Blue Jays (0-3) for the eighth consecutive time. Versailles continues MAC play next week and looks to build on its perfect start, while St. John’s aims to regroup and find its first win of the season.
