OTTAWA, OH (WLIO) - The Putnam County Fair celebrated its opening day Monday afternoon in Ottawa.
Monday was Veteran's Appreciation Day, with free admission for veterans, and a color guard ceremony to kick off fair festivities. This year's theme is "A Fair Reimagined," because so much has changed. The entertainment has been relocated, the pavement was redone, and the grandstands received ADA improvements.
Some of the highlights of the week are harness racing Tuesday and Wednesday, and the demolition derby on Saturday.
"There's a lot of people that enjoy the animals, some people really enjoy the rides, and others like the food. There's quite a few things that everybody can look forward to. My favorite part of the fair is seeing all the people bring all their projects and animals and working really hard," said Nate Kamphaus, president of the Jr. Fair Board.
On Tuesday, kids 16 and under will get in for free before 4 p.m. Thursday is Senior Citizen's Day, with free admission for those 62 and older. The fair ends on Saturday, June 29th. For more information on the Putnam County Fair, visit https://putnamcountyfair.com/.
