17 veterans left Lima Monday evening to meet up with others in Detroit to fly to Washington D.C. This is the first of three trips to the United States’ capital that the Flag City Honor Flight will be making in 2022. The trips are completely free for the veterans, and it gives them the chance to visit the national monuments that were built in their honor. Organizers say that they are glad that they were able to resume the program for those men and women who proudly served this nation.

“This is our first one since 2019,” says Mike Melvin, Flag City Honor Flight. “A majority of these guys have been waiting three years for this day and it is about to happen. I feel blessed. I couldn’t do it without my support in the Lima community, without my friends, and family, they are all behind me 1000%.”

The Honor Flight veterans will have a welcome home ceremony on Wednesday at 1 pm in the Lima Eagles parking lot.
