One of Allen County's most notorious killers is back in Lima-- this time seeking a new trial.
Jeronique Cunningham, appeared in Allen County Common Pleas Court for a Friday status hearing. It's a major change of setting for Cunningham who has been sitting on death row for more than a decade.
Cunningham was found guilty in the 2002 execution style shootings on Eureka Street that left two girls dead and six adults injured. However, a federal appeals court ruled in 2014 that Cunningham can request a new trial based on claims that a juror knew the victims' families and that cost him the opportunity to a fair trial.
During the hearing, attorney Michael Benza of Cleveland was appointed to represent Cunningham and a hearing was scheduled for August 5th.
Cunningham's half brother, Cleveland Jackson was also sentenced to death for the murders. His execution has been scheduled for July 20th of next year.
