Auglaize and Mercer County Sheriff's held a press conference this morning to announce this years Drug Symposium event.Â
Auglaize County Sheriff, Al Solomon and Mercer County Sheriff, Jeff Grey announced their continuing joint effort to battle the drug problem in the area.Â
This year's Drug Symposium will allow parents, teachers, and the community to learn more about what law enforcement is doing to help with the drug problem.Â
Sheriff Grey, says there will be displays at the Drug Symposium that will show parents what they need to look out for if they suspect their kids are using drugs.Â
He says this battle is a community effort and they want people to really understand how to spot drug abuse signs. Â
"I'm amazed and I probably shouldn't be about how many parents don't know what methamphetamine looks like, that's good, it means they didn't use it in their early years. But, parents don't realize what we talk about when we're talking about drugs so that's one of the things were trying to do, actually have things so they can look at them and they can see what we're talking about and this is the stuff we have to be looking out for," says Sheriff Grey.
Sheriff Solomon says this event is also a good way for the community to understand that the drug problem is a national problem, And, not just something happening in Ohio.Â
"Even with all the news about this being a nationwide problem, we still get some people who think it's only this area and I get that because a lot of people don't watch a lot of news and don't get into that whole thing but they need to understand it's not just here and they need to understand the heroin is coming into our counties from other areas," says Sheriff Solomon.Â
The Drug Symposium will be held at Wright State University-Lake Campus on April 8, 2017. It's free and open to the public, all you have to do is RSVP.
Auglaize and Mercer County Sheriffs encourage the community to come out and learn more about how to help fight the drug epidemic.Â
