LIMA, OH (WLIO) - We are just twelve months away from a presidential election. We begin our coverage of this off-year November general election of 2023, with the two statewide issues placed before Ohio voters.
State Issue 1 deals with who makes decisions regarding reproductive rights in the state, and would change the state's constitution, making it very difficult for state lawmakers to impose any restrictions on abortions in the state. Voters have approved the constitutional amendment, which prevents virtually any legislative limitations on various decisions connected to reproductive freedom.
State Issue 2, would legalize, tax, and regulate the adult use of recreational marijuana in the state of Ohio. It would also commercialize the sale of marijuana in the state. The issue finally made it to the ballot after previous tries. It drew some opposition from law enforcement agencies in the state. Ohio voters have said yes to allowing the use of marijuana across the Buckeye State. That change in the law is expected to go into effect 30 days after the election results are finalized.
